My journey to the lab began in the woods with a pair of binoculars. Fundamentally, I am interested in understanding how and why animals behave the way that they do. I approach these questions from a mechanistic perspective (how are processes in the brain and body related to behavior?) and from an evolutionary perspective (how is behavior shaped by natural and sexual selection?). In addition to being fascinated by social behavior, I have long-standing interests in sex and gender.
Before moving to Pennsylvania, I lived in many states (Michigan, Illinois, Maryland, Ohio, New York, Virginia, Indiana, Maine) and spent a few years living abroad (Australia, Spain). When I’m not on campus, chances are you’ll find me cooking, walking, or reading a newspaper.
